after a crash that killed at least 19 foreign tourists near the ancient egyptian city. witnesses said the balloon exploded mid flight. two people survived the crash, including the egyptian pilot. caught air ballooning is one of the main dr. oz for the huge number of tourists who visit luxor each year. the seven city on the banks of the nile is near the valley of the kings. the pharaoh burial ground as the 60 tunes in chambers, including tut. there is also a vast temple complex with the ruins of religious buildings. more from our reporter in cairo. >> it appears there was an explosion on board the balloon when it was around 300 meters or so from the ground. the balloon then came plummeting down, at which 0.1 of the tourists on board, we understand that the british male tourist jump from the balloon. we understand from the ministry of tourism that they contacted the relevant embassies, which includes china, japan, hungary, france, and britain, to coordinate the response and how to get the bodies back home. of course, this comes as a huge blow for the egyptian tourist -- tourism industry

in egypt's ancient city of luxor. a hot air balloon carrying at least 20 tourists caught fire and plunged into a sugar cane field. at least 18 people died. egyptian security officials say an explosion in a gas canister forced the balloon 1,000 feet to the ground. a u.s. photographer snapped these photos before several groups of tourists took flight to see some of luxor's famous sights. authorities say no americans were riding in the balloon that went down. three people including the balloon's pilot survived. they reportedly jumped out of the balloon before it crashed. tina kraus, cbs news. >> hot air balloon crashes have happened in luxor before. 16 people were hurt four years ago when a balloon came down after hitting a communications tower. >>> a bay area couple missing in south america may have been spotted just 10 days ago. kpix 5 reporter cate caugiran is in the newsroom this morning. and cate, there is some word from peru on what they might be doing. >>> reporter: kpix 5 spoke with a hostel operator this month who believes they are s

weather service has issued urgent warnings. kansas city is expecting 9 to 15 inches of snow tonight into tuesday. the same system just left a blanket of white over much of colorado, cancelling hundreds of flights out of denver international on sunday. sam brownback is calling for drivers to stay off the road in his state. and he has worries this storm has the potential to be more dangerous. jennifer delgado live for us now. how bad is it this morning? >> it seems like we always are talking about some type of winter storm. you're right. we're talking about dangerous conditions setting up. you see the blizzard warning in place. across kansas, texas, new mexico, as well as missouri. we're going to see the winds really picking up as we go later into the afternoon and the evening hours. that means visibility is really going to be down. overall, we have about 17 states that are under some type of winter weather warning advisory. and it is going to be a bad one out there. look what's happening right now. we already are seeing storms moving through central texas, as well as that snow workin

: adam housley live for us. adam, thanks. the new york city woman beaten to death in turkey may have had a secret lover. this is new today. her name is sarai sierra. she was supposed to return from a trip to istanbul last month. investigators found her body there near ancient ruins. somebody had beaten her beyond recognition. this is new. she was dressed only in a t-shirt and panties. now foxnews.com reports that a man investigators have been questioning has apparently admitted, yes, he did have an affair with her and the "new york post," which this network's parent company owns, reports fbi agents say she was hanging with a criminal element during her trip. sierra's husband and brother went to turkey to try to find her before investigators discovered the body. they have since headed home but the investigation is far from over. no more regular mail on saturdays, that's it. at least come august. the head of the u.s. postal service says that will be the new normal starting at the end of the summer. officials tell us the agency is losing $25 million a day. it had to do something. here is wh

a thousand feet to the ground, 19 tourists killed. they were soaring over the ancient egyptian city at sunrise when the balloon caught fire blew up and came crashing down. of course, we have not independently verified this video's authenticity. well, a photographer who was in another balloon at the time says it's the real thing. he took this picture of the balloon before it crashed. it's the one on the right. today on "studio b" he told me what happened next. >> i hear a loud explosion. i turn around. and see a lot of smoke. i said to the person standing next to me i hope that wasn't a balloon. frankly, we wouldn't even have managed that it could be. too loud, too close to the ground and as our balloon sat down our pilot said well, this hasn't happened in a long time. and then we knew something really bad occurred. >> shepard: something very bad indeed. experts say this looks to them like the deadliest balloon crash ever. the victims were from europe and asia. there were no americans on board. leland vittert on fox top story in our middle east newsroom. what are investigators saying

event south of new york city. we have the rain-snow line. so that might cut back a little bit of the snow totals here in new york but we're still expecting close to a foot or more in new york city. north and west of the city that's where we're getting the snowe. ongoing snow for 12 to even 18 hours with relentless wind. this is a very, very powerful storm overnight tonight. so throughout the day today, things will start to deteriorate. the worst conditions overnight tonight, into tomorrow. we'll see power outages along the east coast most certainly with winds, 30, 40, 50 miles an hour. in some cases hurricane-force winds. we have a hurricane-force bind advisories all along the coast. snow pounds new england. some areas around boston, alisyn, over three feet. which would be historic for them. alisyn: i'm putting on my parka right now. >> the good side it is happening this weekend, all the kids are going. they're excited. alisyn: schools are closing in connecticut. >> we want people to be safe. alisyn: absolutely. thanks for the update. we'll check back in? >> okay. rick: well f

england. bring the umbrella with you this morning in new york city, philadelphia, down to the d.c., baltimore areas. starting off your morning commute dry. we've got rain and snow heading our way late today. currently that storm is located over tennessee bringing some rain and snow mixture right along the ohio river. even louisville could pick up a half inch of snow. there's the forecast for today. it's actually going to be mild during the day. but then it will get cloudy. the rain will come. it will get a little colder, changing over to snow in philadelphia and new york especially after dark. most of us will get home okay. the roads won't be slippery. later on tonight they will get slippery. just enough to be on the annoying side. about one to three inches predicted for new york city to philadelphia. there's a little sliver central jersey towards the coast and long island that could pick up three to four. boston and hartford not looking at much for you at all. the rest of the country today, we're leaving the southeast with a little bit of chance for rain today. especially north

visiting the resort city of acalpulco. elizabeth is in l.a. what do we know about what happened, first of all? then we'll get the reaction from the mayor. >> hi, suzanne. a horrifying attack, as you described it, what we know at this point, according to local media reports, six spanish women raped inside a condo staying near the beach resort and seven men tied up with cell phone cables. now, as you mentioned, the mayor just reacted, saying that this is definitely horrifying, condemned the attack, but said it's something that could happen anywhere in the world. we also know that the spanish ambassador is in contact with the victims. at this hour they're not specifying exactly where they are but they have told us they have received medical attention and taking care of them, as we speak. but certainly horrifying details, these tourists reportedly staying at a condo, no motive why the attack. of course the hunt, the manhunt, on for the gang of armed masked men. >> a loot of pressure on the mayor to respond. clearly it's a popular place. a lot of us go vacation, a lot of people feel safe th
